SOLOMON R. G. HILTON BAHÁ'Í SCHOOL
Community Standards & Information
The goal of the School is to create a loving and unified atmosphere where each participant can grow closer to Bahá'u'lláh through study of His Writings. To help establish this atmosphere, we feel that the following standards should be observed by all participants:
- ACTING WITH kindness, respect, courtesy to others; showing obedience to those in authority; showing respect for property; being inclusive and welcoming to all participants.
- PARTICIPATION: Full participation in classes and devotions is expected. Informal fellowship time and recreational activities are scheduled as part of the program.
- LODGING: Participants are asked to bring linens for single beds, pillows, blankets, and towels. They can also be rented for $7. There is no a/c, but this area cools off at night. If you are staying in a camper cabin, your bathroom will be located in a separate building that serves a cluster of cabins. Note where the nearest one for your sex is located.
- PARKING: Please park in the lot at the Main Gate. The Parking Guides will arrange to transport your luggage or guide you to drive slowly and carefully to the other side, deposit luggage and return to the parking lot.
- CLOTHING: Standards of dignity, modesty and moderation are requested in choice of clothing. Dress in moderation; for example, reserve short shorts, tank tops and the like for other settings. Avoid clothing with slogans or images that could be considered offensive or disrespectful to some. Swimsuits should be on piece and modest; avoid bikinis or ‘speedos.’
- SERVICE: Abdu’l-Baha assures us that “Service to humanity is service to God.” So you may be asked to serve in a variety of ways, including possibly cleaning the plenary room or classrooms, helping organize games, etc.
- CHASTITY is the standard for all Bahá’ís at all times. No males in females’ cabins/rooms and no females in males’ cabins/rooms, other than immediate family members.
- NO alcohol, drugs, or weapons of any kind. Cigarette smoking is limited to designated areas.
- MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS: You are encouraged to bring any and all musical instruments!
- CLOSED CAMPUS: In order to increase our sense of community life, and for safety in case of emergencies, participants are asked to remain on campus unless absolutely necessary, and to notify a school committee member if someone needs to leave campus. No one under 18 may leave unless accompanied by a parent or their own sponsor.
- CURFEW: All participants are expected to be quiet in cabins by 11pm. Suggested bed time for younger children is 9:30.
- RADIOS, TV’s, CD/TAPE PLAYERS, and ALL OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES should be left at home. Please turn off your cell phone during class/communal time.
- SAFETY / SUPERVISION: Children must be fully supervised by their parents or sponsors at all times when not in a school program.
- EMERGENCIES – Please let a Solomon R.G. Hilton Bahá'í School Committee member know of any problems, needs or questions you may have. In case of an illness or minor hurt requiring first aid, please contact anyone with an orange or green nametag. In a true emergency, please call 911.
